FUNcube SDR

El dongle USB FUNcube SDR es un receptor SDR (Radio definida por software) encapsulado en un lápiz USB. El receptor cubre un rango de frecuencias desde 64 hasta 1700 MHz y puede mostrar/recibir un espectro de hasta 80 kHz.

El receptor FUNcube SDR fue desarrollado para apoyar el proyecto del satélite FUNcube de AMSAT-UK. Este proyecto está concebido para las escuelas y el alumnado, que precisan de un receptor con un precio muy ajustado. ¡De este modo Howard, G6LVB, diseño y desarrolló el dongle USB FUNcube SDR!

El receptor FUNcube SDR se puede usar para recibir prácticamente cualquier señal en VHF y UHF: NFM, AM, SSB, CW, Datos – cualquier cosa soportada por el software. De hecho existe gran cantidad de software adecuado, en gran parte disponible de manera gratuita en Internet: Linrad, Moetronix SpectraVue, Rocky, M0KGK y muchos otros. El lápiz FUNcube SDR se comporta de cara al ordenador como una tarjeta de sonido. Los drivers necesarios ya están disponibles para muchos sistemas operativos como Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP, Windows Vista y Windows 7 (32 y 64 bit), pero también para Linux y Mac OS X.

Para comenzar a usar el dongle FUNcube SDR, se debe actualizar el firmware (el software cargado en el propio dongle). Por ello es necesario descargar el software apropiado para Windows del sitio web de los desarrolladores e instalar el firmware más reciente. Así, es necesario un poquito de trabajo en el ordenador antes de poner en funcionamiento el FUNcube SDR. Posteriormente se recomienda un alineamiento grosero de frecuencia. El dongle USB FUNcube SDR dispone de un conector SMA hembra para la antena y funciona en cualquier ordenador con interfaz USB 2.0, leer más arriba acerca del sistema operativo. La sensibilidad en 2m y 70cm es de aproximadamente 0.15µV. Se recomienda emplear un cable de extensión USB para alejarlo del ruido generado por el ordenador.

The FUNcube Dongle SDR Receiver has been a huge success so far and enjoys wide acceptance with many radio amateurs for receiving satellites and other VHF/UHF communications. The only drawback so far was reception of shortwave.

With the HF converter the reception of a frequency range from 0 to 52MHz now becomes possible. The converter is simply inserted in front of the FUNcube Dongle to the antenna connector. The power supply is done by USB, only the power lines are used. Alternativly any other +5V DC power supply can be used.

The converter transfers the received signals to a frequency which is 106.25MHz higher. This makes the converter useable with any kind of software for the FCD. Some programs (like HDSDR) allow to set a constant offset, making the use even more simple by showing the correct frequency even when using this converter.

For a good large signal handling the converter has a low pass at the input, plus a band pass filter for the 3m broadcast band and a high pass at the output.

The HF converter comes without an enclosure and partially assembled. All components except the SMA connectors are all ready installed, the coaxial connectors need to soldered to the board. The converter is shipped without connecting cable, best to order one 40310.SM-SM together with the converter.

Of course the HF converter can not only be used with the FUNcube Dongle, but with any VHF other receiver as well.
